Colony chick

I’ve spent most of this week cuddling prem babies in a Special Care Nursery, including most of today, so I’m very late preparing this week’s lirralirra. When I was considering which images to share, one species kept coming to mind…

Australasian Gannet chick

… gannets. The noise and the busy-ness at a gannet colony reminds me of the noise and busy-ness in the SCN. The vulnerability of the chicks and the attention of the adults seems quite similar. Though thankfully we have special care nurses who respond to worrying beeps with such kind expertise that they fill me with gratitude.

Because of the early arrivals (and the cup weekend delaying the printers) I am still able to take orders for calendars – visit last week’s post for details: Lirralirra Calendar I’ve been so pleasantly surprised by the number of orders, thank you! It’s exciting to know that some of my favourite photographs will be enjoyed by so many people throughout the year. Orders for, or from, overseas calendar can be made here: Etsy – Lirralirra Calendar 2024

Happy birding, Kim
