This week I decided to wander in the drizzle and photograph ducks in the rain. My favourite shot of the day is this mumma duck who was fluffed up so much to protect her ducklings that she looked like a large chook.
She was sheltering nine ducklings beneath those feathers as the male duck kept watch. Both adult ducks are sprinkled with raindrops while the ducklings stay dry beneath their feathery umbrella.
The 2027 lirralirra calendar showcases the freedom of birds in flight and includes a Yellow-billed Spoonbill about to land in an ephemeral pond. Check out which bird graces your birthday month at lirralirrashop.com
Happy birding, Kim
