Sometimes I have very comical experiences when I’m out and about with my camera.

I was photographing this cooperative Little Pied Cormorant when somewhere behind me I heard parents telling a child that the lady on the ground was photographing a penguin. It was so funny, and became even funnier when the more I looked at the cormorant the more I thought it looked like a penguin too!

It was a particularly beautiful cormorant, and I like the dappled background and the moonlike curve of the foreground.

And then it held its wings in a strange way as if to say, ‘So you think these wings look like flippers!’

I’ve always had a soft spot for Little Pied Cormorants. I think they look quite cute, and seeing this one showing off it beautiful wings and its fluffy drawers confirmed my admiration.

If it had flown away the parents would have realised it wasn’t a penguin, but instead it started diving and virtually each time it resurfaced it had found an unlucky yabby.
