Black Kite

Oh my goodness, one of my dogs has been unwell this week with old dog vestibular disease, looking after her has kept me so pre-occupied that I didn’t realise it was Friday until I was heading to sleep. If you’ve had a dog with this syndrome you’ll understand how awful it can be. My old timer seems to be improving, very, very slowly. I’m hoping tomorrow will be a better day for her.
In the mean time I will share some Black Kite in flight images without the usual text. Each image shows a different diagnostic feature of the species, including their forked tail, yellow cere and underwing markings. You’ll notice that their tails don’t always appear forked. I’m fascinated by the differing positions of their wings, the spread of their primaries and their majestic, intimidating grace.

I’m a bit worried that I’ve loaded very low-res images, but I’m so tired I can’t double check without falling asleep. I do apologise, just in case!

Happy birding, Kim
