Firstly a huge apology, I’ve only just realised it’s Saturday. I have been incredibly busy, along with usual things my days have been filled with appointments and commitments, often literally rushing from one to another with no time to eat in between. Anyways, back to birds, this week I’ll share photographs of the gorgeous Yellow-faced Honeyeaters that visit my property in summer.

The photograph above is one of my favourite shots of a Yellow-faced Honeyeater. Many birds species enjoy the figs that I am happy to share with them. The bird above paused in the perfect spot, I even love the blurred background of wattle leaves and seed pods.

I’ve added the shot above partly because it’s super cute but mainly because it shows how different a species can appear when it fluffs its feathers. I’m sometimes asked to identify birds from a spoken description and if I suggest a species to look up I’m fairly often told that ‘no, it was much rounder’ – and fluffed feathers could be why.
It’s good to be experiencing some cooler weather again though we are in desperate need of rain. There has been such a flurry of activity at the birdbaths since I’ve been writing this post that it has taken me much longer than it should have! The New Holland Honeyeaters are particularly enjoying the two pedestal baths (one shallow and one deeper with a rock), and they’ve been joined by a pair of Yellow-faced Honeyeaters, Eastern Yellow Robins, Grey Fantails, a Rufous Fantail, Brown Thornbills, Striated Thornbills, Eastern Spinebills, Silvereyes, Superb Fairywrens and a pardalote (not sure which one as the visit was brief). And now all is quiet again. I spoke too soon, several species are back and I can hardly bear to put down my binoculars in case the mystery bird that I glimpsed last week turns up again.
Anyways, I wish you rain (but not too much), and I wish you sunshine (but not too hot).
Happy birding, Kim

So beautiful! I must keep an eye out for this one. Glorious pics as always!
They are pretty lovely, and are lurking in the garden here at the moment
