Christmas Spinebill

A slightly late Christmas spinebill but very, very beautiful none-the-less.

Eastern Spinebill on lichen covered branch

I spent most of today working on the final fuel-reduction burn of the year. It’s been such a busy few days that I completely forgot that yesterday was Friday.

Eastern Spinebills are such exquisite little birds. I often think of them as our closest equivalent to hummingbirds as both species are tiny and hover for nectar.

Wishing everyone a 2026 filled with love, laughter, health and birdsong (and no quarry expansions).

Happy birding, Kim

    Dear Kim
Getting ready for the summer season is hard work and incredibly intense especially in bushland settings so I hope you did get to enjoy Christmas with your family and friends. This little Christmas Spinebill thanks you on behalf of all her beautiful, feathered friends for working tirelessly to protect their homes.

After enjoying the children opening presents, sharing yummy Christmas fare and listening to wonderful Christmas carols it was time to sit quietly in the garden and enjoy what can never be wrapped, a group of birds having fun and games as they played in the bird bath. Now that is truly magical and fortunately can be enjoyed all year round.

Wishing all bird lovers a year of health, wealth and the kind of happiness that truly matters.
Cheers to another year of new destinations, exciting experiences, unforgettable journeys and, of course, wonderful photos of our feathered friends who bring so much joy to us all.

    Happy New Year

I’m glad to hear you had a wonderful Christmas Barbara, and I love your description of the beautiful things that can never be wrapped – that’s so true! And it’s also very true about the time it takes to prepare a bush block for summer. I’ve been working full time on the property for the past few days and it’s so good to see things gradually looking better, though I did find a huge pile of unexpected bark and twigs that I’ll need to sort out now. Anyways, thanks for your beaut messages throughout the year, wishing you a joyous 2026, Kim
